Mexico Green Building Council announces its launching

November 11, 2004. PORTLAND, OR.- The Mexico Green Building Council -MexicoGBC (Consejo Mexicano de Construccion Sustentable, AC) is making its international launch announcement at GreenBuild Conference & Expo 2004. The Council will open to memberships in April 2005, accompanied by a series of educational presentations and promotional activities in Mexico.

The MexicoGBC is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to the sharing of knowledge and the promotion of best practices that improve the environmental performance of buildings, thus fostering a sustainable built environment. The Council forms an alliance of building and construction industry leaders from both the public and private sectors.

Its mission is to promote sustainable development through the realization and construction of a superior built environment.

Hence, the Council's fundamental goals are:

1. To carry out research and lead knowledge dissemination activities, with primary focus on the development and implementation of a National Green Building Rating Tool.

2. To encourage best practices, advanced industry standards and new technologies for the building and construction industry.

3. To promote the design and construction of environmentally conscientious, socially responsible, and profitable buildings.

4. To engage on market transformation initiatives towards a sustainable built environment.

5. To collaborate with like-minded organizations in related issues. All the above, with insightful understanding and commitment to local social needs, market operation and environmental obligations. The Council creates strategic alliances with key industry and research organizations and Federal, State and Local Government Agencies to transform the built environment.

Through their active participation in the Council's endeavors, members expand their networks around the fast-growing green building market. Primary areas of activity are:

I. Information Spreading. To become the fundamental source of expertise on green buildings and sustainability in the built environment. Issue of a specialized periodical newsletter to keep members updated with the latest developments.

II. National Green Building Rating System. To develop and implement a domestic and internationally recognized green building assessment and rating tool.

III. Professional Development. To conduct courses, training seminars and events to expand industry knowledge.

IV. Advocacy. To work with governmental bodies to promote favorable regulatory frameworks and real incentives oriented to activate sustainable industry practices.

V. Green Building Award. To launch a country-wide competition so as to recognize the best initiatives related to the advancement of a sustainable built environment.

VI. Industry Linkage. To facilitate collaboration between all sectors of the property and construction industry.

VII. Alliances and Partnerships. To work with industry associations in coordinating activities and developing strategies to ensure green building initiatives are maximized.

The Council is distinguished by its open, non-exclusive representation, including a wide range of public and private stakeholders from the building and property industries. Different membership and sponsorship categories allocate, among many others, individual students and practitioners, research institutions, professional associations and societies, financial establishments, governmental bodies, product manufacturers and suppliers, real estate developers, non-for-profits, etc.

The Council's collaborative working model through its Committees and Task Groups provides their members the opportunity to effectively change the way buildings are designed, built and maintained. Namely, Member Committees are: Technical, Advocacy, Educational and Marketing.
