About Chapters

What Do Chapters Do?

Individuals who want to become involved with green building on a local level can join their USGBC local chapter. Chapters are the local voice of USGBC, and chapter members are key to raising awareness about green building. Chapter membership also provides excellent networking opportunities, the chance to participate on committees as well as serve in a leadership role at the chapter level. Chapter members may also enjoy special chapter member discounts on chapter events.

All of our chapters are separate 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. Most chapters hold monthly meetings and/or events for their members, in addition to holding LEED workshops and sometimes LEED User Groups. Contact your local chapter to be placed on that chapter’s listserv (e-mail distribution list).

Where is My Local Chapter?

To find your local chapter, look in our chapter directory and map. If you cannot locate a chapter in your area, there may be an organizing group in the process of forming a chapter, or you may turn to a local USGBC affiliate for local green building information.

What Does Chapter Membership Cost?

Regular chapter membership is generally $65 per year, but can vary.

Individuals who work for a USGBC national member organization are entitled to a 30% discount off the regular chapter membership.

Full-time students may join their local chapter at a 60% discount off the regular chapter dues. Note: student members may be asked to verify their full-time status at any time.

What If There Is No Chapter in My Area?

If there is not a USGBC chapter, affiliate, or organizing group in your area, and you are interested in starting one, find out more by contacting the USGBC Chapters Team at chapters@usgbc.org.
